Local MCP runs dreamtune mcp as a child of your agent client. It opens no HTTP listener. Standard output carries the protocol; diagnostics go to standard error.

Install and configure

Install Node.js 22.20 or later, then:
Set DREAMTUNE_API_KEY, DREAMTUNE_API_ORIGIN and DREAMTUNE_REQUEST_TIMEOUT_MS for the process your client launches. Use the production API origin https://dreamtune-api.fly.dev with a production key. The generic stdio definition is:
Keep the actual key in a private client configuration or use the client’s documented secret substitution. Do not commit a substituted key. Some clients use a different outer object or require an explicit transport type; follow your client’s guide.

Verify without paid execution

List the definitions, then ask the client to discover catalog tools. Do not launch compute or run a generator merely to check whether the server starts. Use MCP tool reference to identify read and write operations.

Windows and desktop environments

A desktop agent may not inherit the PATH or variables from your terminal. Restart it after changing its environment. If dreamtune cannot be resolved, use the absolute Node executable and installed package’s dist/cli.js path, with mcp as the final argument. Obtain your installation location with npm root --global; do not copy another machine’s path. Do not start the stdio server in an unrelated background terminal: the client must manage its input/output connection. Do not insert ordinary logging on stdout.

Optional local compute

Set DREAMTUNE_COMPUTE_STATE_DIRECTORY to an absolute private directory to enable the local compute-access tools. An invalid supplied directory is an error. Without that optional local capability, the API compute tools remain available with their explicit public-key contract. See GPU access.
