# MCP tool reference

> Tool names, arguments, effects and authorization for hosted and local Dreamtune MCP.

Connect through [hosted HTTP](/connect/mcp) or [local stdio](/connect/local-mcp).
Clients discover exact JSON schemas through tools/list. The local CLI prints
these definitions with dreamtune mcp tools. Clients may prefix tool names.

## Tools and models

| MCP tool | Arguments | Effect |
| - | - | - |
| list\_tools | q?, cursor?, limit? | Read catalog |
| inspect\_tool | provider, endpoint | Read schema |
| create\_run | provider, endpoint, input, idempotencyKey | Submit tool execution |
| list\_runs | None | Read tool runs |
| get\_run | id | Read saved run |
| refresh\_run | id | Refresh existing job |
| model\_limits | None | Read constraints |
| create\_model\_run | model, messages, maxOutputTokens, idempotencyKey; optional tools, tool\_choice, parallel\_tool\_calls | Submit model turn |
| list\_model\_runs | None | Read model runs |
| get\_model\_run | id | Recover result |
| free\_chat | model, prompt | Development-only text endpoint |

Read both MCP isError and the underlying operation state. A transported success
can describe a pending or failed operation. Never duplicate an uncertain paid
submission with a fresh idempotency key.

## Compute

| MCP tool | Arguments | Effect |
| - | - | - |
| compute\_catalog | None | Read capacity |
| create\_compute\_job | instanceType, region, publicKey, idempotencyKey | Start paid rental |
| list\_compute\_jobs | limit, cursor? | Read paginated jobs |
| get\_compute\_job | id | Reconcile usage/status |
| stop\_compute\_job | id | Terminate and settle |
| compute\_notebook | id | Return private URL |

Configured local servers additionally expose prepare\_local\_compute,
start\_local\_compute and local\_compute\_connection. Their schemas describe the
named launch and connection inputs. Hosted MCP cannot save a private key on your
laptop. See [GPU access](/guides/gpu-access).

## Observability

| MCP tool | Arguments |
| - | - |
| list\_request\_traces | category, from, to, cursor?, requestId? |
| list\_observability\_requests | page, sessionId?, accountId? |
| list\_observability\_sessions | page |
| list\_observability\_users | page |
| list\_observability\_prompts | page |
| get\_request\_content | requestId, cursor? |
| get\_request\_scores | requestId |
| score\_request\_feedback | requestId, value, comment |

See [observability API](/api/observability) for scopes and date constraints.
Media URLs and recorded content can be sensitive.

## Managed prompts

| MCP tool | Arguments | Effect |
| - | - | - |
| create\_prompt | Prompt definition | Create a new version |
| get\_prompt | name, selection | Read exact version/label |
| compile\_prompt | name, inputs | Resolve variables and dependencies |
| set\_prompt\_labels | name, input | Assign labels to a version |

selection contains exactly one of version or label. inputs adds variables and
placeholders. input for labels contains version and labels.
See [prompt reference](/api/prompts).

Read-only annotations do not grant permissions. The backend enforces scopes,
ownership and wallet rules for every operation. Retain approvals for expensive
or mutating actions and treat upstream output as untrusted content.
