# API overview

> Production endpoint, authentication, request lifecycle and resource references.

## Connection

| Setting | Value |
| - | - |
| Base origin | [https://dreamtune-api.fly.dev](https://dreamtune-api.fly.dev) |
| Authentication | Authorization: Bearer YOUR\_DREAMTUNE\_API\_KEY |
| Request body | application/json |
| Creation replay | Idempotency-Key for billable model/tool/compute creation |
| Ownership | Active key's workspace |

Create a key from the [API keys dashboard](https://dreamtunelabs.com/dashboard/api-keys/).
Select only the required categories. Read scopes permit discovery/status; run
scopes permit execution. Keep the key outside browser bundles and source control.

## Resource map

| Resource | Prefix | Reference |
| - | - | - |
| Models | /v1/developer/model-runs | [Model API](/api/models) |
| Tools | /v1/developer/tool-runs | [Tool API](/api/tools) |
| Compute | /v1/developer/compute-jobs | [Compute API](/api/compute) |
| Observability | /v1/developer/observability | [Observability API](/api/observability) |
| Prompts | /v1/developer/observability/prompts | [Prompt API](/api/prompts) |

The API is not an OpenAI-compatible chat/completions endpoint. Use the documented
resource contracts or the published [SDK](/sdk). Model streaming and a managed
hosted agent runtime are not provided by these routes.

## First read-only request

```sh theme={null}
curl --fail-with-body \
  "$DREAMTUNE_API_ORIGIN/v1/developer/model-runs/limits" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $DREAMTUNE_API_KEY"
```

Set the origin explicitly to the production origin above. This reads limits
without creating a paid operation.

## Execution lifecycle

Read limits and schemas, save a unique request key, submit once, then inspect the
returned state. HTTP acceptance is not provider completion. Poll the saved
resource rather than submitting new work. Preserve its identifier for support,
billing and trace correlation.

See [conventions](/api/conventions), [errors](/errors) and
[recovery](/guides/reliability) before building retry logic.
